Mount Pleasant

The Postmark Project, which redeveloped the former Royal Mail sorting office site at Mount Pleasant in London, includes a plaza water feature composed of 12 jets formed in a circular shape.

The visual appeal from the movement of the water jets and auditory stimulation from the sound of splashing water enhances urban liveability by creating a gathering place and fostering a sense of well-being and tranquillity.

Interconnected water storage pods, individual DMX-controlled pump units for each jet with Red/Green/Blue/White LED illumination, distribution pipes and nozzles, feature lighting, a water holding tank, cross-site pipework, water return floor grates suitable for pedestrian loading are located beneath the paving. The water treatment plant together with the necessary control and monitoring systems are located in a basement plant room.

This plaza water feature, which was formerly a part of London’s busy and historic Royal Docks, is part of a major mixed regeneration project in the Canning Town district of East London.

It consists of 15 vertical clearstream water jets in a triangular formation just below paving level, with a total area of about 7.5 m by 11.5 m.

The plaza feature brings a playful element to the formal space and softens the hard landscaping.

While lowering any urban noise and fostering a sense of tranquillity, the sound of the water cascading from the jets may be both energizing and soothing.

Interconnected water storage pods, separate DMX-controlled pump units for each jet, distribution pipes and nozzles, feature lighting, a water holding tank, cross-site pipework, water return floor grates suitable for pedestrian loading are located beneath the paving. The water treatment plant together with the necessary control and monitoring systems are located in a basement plant room.

The water feature is situated in an urban business quarter, St Petersfield, in Ashton under Lyne, on a paved plaza area.

This feature, which was constructed in 2006 and had been unused for quite some time, has been renovated and its water treatment system updated to bring it back into compliance with regulations and standards of today.

The feature comprises of two banks of 12 jets, arranged in a straight line, that extend up to two meters above the pavement. A set of 24 pods with an architectural grill covering which are flush with the surrounding paving house the underwater LED lighting and jets.

A subterranean plant room houses the filtration and dosing equipment required to keep the water clean and an underground reservoir tank holds the working water for the feature.

This external 9 jet plaza feature on the bank of the River Thames provides a decorative element in the Fulham Riverside urban living environment.

The sound and visual aesthetic of three rows of jets spaced 1.1 x 0.8 metres apart create a pleasant ambiance and an element of surprise for nearby residents and passers-by, which promotes and enhances the use of this public space.

When the fountain is not running, the area is multi-functional since it may be walked on.

The LED lighting around the jets provides evening illumination, extending the water feature’s operational hours after sunset.

The inner most 12 jets reach a maximum height of 2m with the surrounding outer most 18 jets a maximum height of 1m.

Each of the jets is illuminated with a RGB LED light all of which are simultaneously controlled.

Channel drains surround three sides of the water feature and of these, the two opposite channels house a total of 79 fog nozzles to provide an additional misting dynamic to the plaza area.

A decorative plaza type feature made up of 14 jets formed in a triangular shape creates a focal and attractive extension to the cinema foreground for the public.

The water jets are individually controllable and can be adjusted to produce a variety of heights to surprise visitors.  Each jet is also illuminated with a Red/Green/Blue/White LED which extends the entertainment of this feature into the evening hours.

Events Boulevard hosts the UK’s first ever digital water-wall.  This ‘water curtain’ type feature is known as a Flash Wall. Mounted to a clad structure, the Flash Wall sits in the centre of a granite pool and drops and illuminates water from over 500 individually controllable micro-valves and 32 individually controllable RGBA (Red/Green/Blue/Amber) LEDs.   This allows the feature to be digitally programmed to display graphics, designs, characters, etc, which are represented through the use of fast reacting valve technology.

Six ‘water table’ type features, all varying in length and width, installed on The Street and at Events Boulevard are clad and topped with granite. Each feature has a dry mounted display pump providing water to the top of the table before flowing over the sides of the water table. Every other piece of granite cladding is etched to provide a rippling effect. All features are fitted with rising fog and are illuminated by a below ground LED strip.

Activity Square hosts a ‘plaza’ type water feature arranged in a large triangular layout consisting of 25 individually controllable DMX display pumps located in stainless steel pods below the surrounding paved area. Each grate is fitted with an individually controllable RGB (Red/Green/Blue) LED that illuminates the water as part of the display and each jet has a rising fog effect.

The plaza type feature consists of 19 jets situated at ground level, distributed within a triangular paved area, with 3 sets each reaching a maximum water height. The jets will alter from full and half height intermittently.

Adjacent to each display jet a circular shaped, single colour, LED unit provides an added visual impact.

Crowle has undergone changes to re-establish the Market Place as the principal meeting space for the town thereby creating a focus for civic pride, to provide high quality public realm and create an attractive location for businesses and individuals to invest.

The area has been re paved with quality stone paving across the whole area unifying the space but different textures and sizes were used to differentiate areas.

As part of the scheme there is a simple attractive water feature. This consists of 9 foam effect jets with a maximum height of 1.2 metres and covers an area of 3 metres square. The jets emanate from individual high quality stainless steel grates set into the surrounding stone paving. The jets are illuminated at night with individual LED fittings all producing white light. Water is drawn from an underground GRP holding tank situated adjacent to the water feature jets. Water flows out of the jet nozzles and returns by gravity to the holding tank.

A plantroom building has been constructed to blend in with the existing local architecture and is located some 35 metres away from the water feature and contains all the complex mechanical an electrical equipment required to operate the water feature system. The system generally comprises of pumps, chemical treatment plant including sand filtration, automatic water top up system and a bespoke electrical control panel. The control system incorporates many features essential for public open space water displays including wind speed sensing to lower the jets in high wind conditions and a frost sensor for prolonged periods of cold weather.

The public square offers a tranquil and peaceful space where people can relax and enjoy the cooling environment of a dry plaza decorative water feature.

The feature has a total of 16 No vertical aerated white water foaming jets which run at a height between 200 and 1800mm.

To further enhance the display each jet is illuminated by a LED light.  During the evening time the LED lights catch the full height of the jets and bring a whole new aspect to the feature to that of the daytime show.
