This plaza water feature, which was formerly a part of London’s busy and historic Royal Docks, is part of a major mixed regeneration project in the Canning Town district of East London.
It consists of 15 vertical clearstream water jets in a triangular formation just below paving level, with a total area of about 7.5 m by 11.5 m.
The plaza feature brings a playful element to the formal space and softens the hard landscaping.
While lowering any urban noise and fostering a sense of tranquillity, the sound of the water cascading from the jets may be both energizing and soothing.
Interconnected water storage pods, separate DMX-controlled pump units for each jet, distribution pipes and nozzles, feature lighting, a water holding tank, cross-site pipework, water return floor grates suitable for pedestrian loading are located beneath the paving. The water treatment plant together with the necessary control and monitoring systems are located in a basement plant room.
